Then later by Theresa's uncle, he tells me about being a thief and stealing, my character goes on about it BUT I have been stealing a ton and enjoying it, I just always find these are why RPGs should allow the character to be completely made by the player and give them total freedom of how they behave in and out of dialogue. I had no choice in the dialogue matter, it went on as if I had never stolen off a corpse even though I just did of like 15 corpses. While Henry is a pretty blank slate, he still does things that go against the way I am actually roleplaying him - or want to roleplay him.įor example even early on in the game during the prologue and just after it, I went stealing stuff from corpses, then when I get back to Skalitz my character is a hypocrite to that other guy (can't remember how to spell his name, starts with a Z), the other guy was trying to steal something off the corpse of Skalitz's butcher. I do have one problem with KCD though and that is that I still find that having even the slightest pre established player character detracts from the RPG experience of this game and any game that does this. Rattay is one of my favorite towns I've encountered in an RPG I love how sprawling and real these locations feel in their design.Ĭlick to shrink.I agree with most of what you have said. The world feels great to explore as well. The feudal and noble/peasant dynamics of the era informing missions and story. The very gradual "falling upward" of character and story progression that feels less like some contrived heroic destiny and more like Henry getting lucky that his stubbornness and brashness is kind of amusing and useful to his betters. How that status plays into the narrative and how Henry's journey unfolds. The way the game places you in the shoes of a lowly peasant nobody. The story and writing has been top-notch as well. Compared to the weak hack-and-slashing of most other first person RPGs, KCD's feels heavy and deliberate, and what enemies are wielding have a notable impact in the way you pick your strikes and whatnot. The combat, especially in conjunction with the tangible progression, is quite solid and nuanced. The pace at which you learn new mechanics, upgrade skills and gain skills points, and just the gradual feeling of becoming better equipped, both in terms of gear and in terms of growing as a character, is very rewarding. The Witcher 3 has a more interesting overarching story and more unique characters, but KCD is really sinking its hooks in. Stay celibate and complete the entire game as a virgin.I think this might be my favorite RPG since I played Planescape Torment for the first time last year.
